speciality & character portfolio.

I've made an update to my website. I've changed my retro portfolio to a speciality & character portfolio. This will allow me a place to put work that get that involves doing special effects/character makeup. I will still have my retro work in there as I consider it character and or speciality work.

I really love getting to do this kind of work and I look forward to adding more to it soon. I have a few shoots coming up that should fall into this portfolio.

Prime time!

Anonymous asked...
Love your blog ---fun and informative. What can you tell me about photo finish by smash box?

Aww thank you so much! You make a gal not need her blush. :)

Photo finish is smash boxes makeup primer. Many makeup brands have them. They vary in ingredients, texture and what they are suppose to do. The main purpose of most though is to fill in fine lines and pores so that foundation goes on smother and the skin looks flawless. Photo finish is no exception.

Photobucket

Photo finish is one of the primers I've had a chance to work with. It has a nice smooth and light texture to it. I like it on dry or regular skin types but combination and oily would do well not to use it. On some oily skin the foundation will slide right off the face about an hour later when using this product with it.

*If you are having this issue I would try make up for ever's: all mat mattifying primer instead. Same idea but made with ingredients to help stop the dreaded foundation slip and slide. The best place to pick up this item is sephora since they are a french based line and don't have any stand alone stores expect in NYC and ordering on their website is not possible for folks in the states. http://www.sephora.com/

Photobucket

Photo finish does offer a few color correcting primers as well. I've used the green to minimizes redness on myself. It works okay nothing miraculous. I can't really use it on photo and video shoots though as the camera can pick up that green even though it hardly visible to the naked eye.

Photobucket

I like the bronzing one a lot actually it's super sheer but I find it to be perfect when I get someone in my chair who needs some tan lines filled in. It also just washes off in the shower so no worries on my part about giving someone a lasting tan.

Photobucket

My favorite one in their line is the dermaxyl complex one though. Besides filling in fine lines and pores this one actually helps firm the skin's texture and has a SPF15. I like multi-taskers!

Photobucket

Want to try the primer for yourself? Check out smashboxes website to find the most convent place to buy http://www.smashbox.com/

So what else can I tell you? How about one of the things people seem most unsure of when it comes to primers. What order to put it on. So the correct order is: cleanse (with products that are appropriate for your skin type), sun screen, moisturize, primer, foundation, set it with powder, concealer, set again with powder. And yes you can find products that combine some of these things to save you some steps. Like I said I like multi-taskers!

Hope that helped you get a little more fabulous!

Got your own makeup question? I love helping people feel and look their best so send them my way.

Stay gorgeous!

I have a crush...on a lip gloss.

There are a few things I like more than makeup... Hot men are one of them.

Well urban decay makeup came up with a product to combine two of my favorite things with their new lip gloss called the "pocket rocket". Each gloss has a photo of a different sexy guy that goes from dressed to his skivvies with a tilt of the tube. Both front and back views, because sometimes we gals like to let a man go just to watch him walk away. ;)

If that wasn't fun enough the gloss is also made with Hyaluronic Spheres, known to improve cellular function, prevent dehydration, and fill in lines and wrinkles. I can tell ya my lips did in fact feel great with this product. Usually after gloss wears off I need some lip balm but not with this product.

And as you might be able to guess from the name they made the tube flat so it can slides right into your pocket.

The gloss has a sweet crème brûlée flavor to it.

Not sold yet? Well just in case your new lip color alone isn't enough to lure that sexy man the tubes lid has a place to rub to release pheromones into the air! Undetectable to the smell, pheromones enhance mood and sexual attraction.

But to be honest I didn't know any of this when I went to buy it I just thought Jesse was hot and I wanted to carry him around in my pocket. Lucky the sheer blackberry with warm sparkle color looked good on me!

Bright eyes

Karen Writes:

Fun and informative Blog - very cool !Any cover-up recommendations for those ugly dark circles under the eyes for the 60+ ladieswith fair skin tones?

Thank you so much Karen. :)

Now on to your question:

Karen I do indeed have a product that I love for this little issue.

Amazing concealer is well amazing.

Photobucket

It's highly pigmented so you only need a dab. Trust me on that! I tried it on myself for the first time not realizing it and let's just say I looked like a reverse raccoon. But once I wiped that off and only put on a tiny bit I was in love. It's so creamy but covers up darkness and doesn't sink into fine lines. It's also water proof. I think it could only be better if it came with Hugh Jackmen.

More fun information is it is made right here in Illinois and they just opened a retail shop in Libertyville. But if you don't make all the way out there you can order online or look for it at ulta and sephora. If you can go in person it maybe better so you can pick the shade that matches you best.

0.5 oz = $42.00

0.2 oz = $28.00

Oh the light! PS:

Now that you've got your face and body all sun protected, let's talk about your lips.

Yes you can get lip balm with an SPF in it, and you should.

I like Kiehl's lip balm. You can get it in SPF 4 or 15.

In the SPF 4 ($8.50) you can get it in 6 different yummy flavors. I use the mint one in my kit and everyone raves about it when I put it on their lips.

Photobucket

In the SPF 15 ($9.50) you can get clear or add a little color to your lips with either "Hue 30G" a light golden color with peach tones or "Hue 58B" a sheer lip gloss with cooler red tones.

Oh the light!

I have a confession...

A deep dark secret I've been hiding...

I hate the sun!

Well maybe not the sun itself, but definitely what it does to my skin.

I look awful with a tan. All ruddy red like I've been rolled in terracotta mud. So of course I protect my delicate skin from the suns unkind rays. I bath in sun screen year round.

But hey here's the truth (and the point of this here blog post) we all should be wearing sun screen year long. No matter what your skin tone is. Without it the sun can cause some major damage to your skin. Cancer, sun spot, wrinkles, burns and yes even those pesky tans. Just because you're not burning doesn't mean you're not damaging! By the way a tan is your skin fighting off sun damage.

Finding a sun screen can be hard though. I personally like neutrogena. It's light weight and doesn't feel greasy and gross like some sun screen can. My dermatologist even recommends it so it must be pretty good. It comes in every level SPF you can think of. I of course wear the Neutrogena age shield face sunblock in SPF 90+. No really they make 90+ block. As you can imagine I was very excited about this!

Photobucket

What it does: It claims to shield your skin six layers deep from UVA rays (those are the ones that age you) It also screens out UVB rays (those are the ones that burn you)

Oh and quick tip make sure to apply at least 15 minutes before you go out in the day light. It takes about that long for the sun screen to well soak into your skin so to speak.

So please don't bake! Fake!

When your 80 and look like you're 50 you'll thank me.

Pasty is pretty,

Ashley

bat those lashes!

A friend of mine recently asked me to recommend a mascara to her. Her and every lady and sassy gent who sits in my chair.

I personally love me some fiberwig!

I use it in my kit and on myself. (Don't worry a different tube for each. No double dipping for this gal!)

Photobucket

So why is fiberwig the cats pajamas? Not to get all info commercial on you but...

Fiberwig actually coats your lashes with fibers, that instantly dry to create a long lasting film coat around your natural lashes. And it doesn't cry or sweat off. When you want to take it off simply wet your lashes with warm water. Then gently slide off the fibers with your finger and thumb. It comes off in little tubes. Don't worry it's not your lashes!!!

At $22 a tube it's not the cheapest mascara you can find but so far for me it's the best.

But hey if someone has other ones they like better I'm always open to trying something new.

This post reminds me though I need to go get some more for me.
